CUPE 1156 is part of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU/CUPE), which represents most hospital locals in CUPE within Ontario, representing about 50,000 workers.
OCHU is also the central bargaining agent for most hospital Locals. The OCHU/CUPE central agreement has been fortified through decades of negotiating contracts that provide workers decent wages and benefits, a good pension plan, strong job security, and more.
Currently, CUPE 1156 is not covered by the OCHU central agreement. However, the OCHU central hospital pattern affects workers across the sector, including the members of CUPE 1156.
